Jenny Marra to meet Labour Students in Dundee
Jenny has kindly agreed to speak in a joint event to both Labour clubs in Dundee. The event is on the 27th of February at 6pm. The talk will be for roughly an hour, a number of issues will be discussed with Jenny answering any questions anyone might have. After the event we will be heading to the pub, all are welcome.
More details of the event are available on Facebook.
Refreshers Fayre
On the 26th we had our stall at Refreshers Fayre. We signed up a number of new members in what was a very quiet Fayre. A big success of the event was huge interest in Jenny Marra's campaign to bring the National Football Academy to Dundee. Anyone interested in adding their own name to the petition in bringing the Academy to Dundee can sign here.
Happy New Year!
We would like to wish everyone a happy new year. 2011 has been a fantastic year and we hope that everyone enjoys a prosperous 2012!
See you at Refreshers Fayre in January.
Scottish Labour Elects Johann and Anas
We would like to congratulate Johann Lamont and Anas Sarwar on becoming the new Leader and Depute Leader of the Scottish Labour Party. We look forward to working with them in the hope of rebuilding Scottish Labour and challenging the SNP government. Abertay Labour are confident the duo are the right candidates to win back old members and the people of Scotland.
We would also like to thank Iain Gray for his work as Labour leader. He fought hard for the working people of Scotland and we are especially grateful to Iain as he battled against the SNP over the attempted merger on numerous occassions. Iain remains on as an MSP, we all wish him the best and we are sure that he will be a valuable Component in the new Scottish Labour regime.

Abertay Labour's shortlisting for 'Best New Labour Club' award by Labour Students
Abertay Labour was delighted to have been short listed for the 'Best New Labour Club' award. It is an honour that our work has been recognised nationally by Labour Student friends up and down the country.
We were one of only two Scottish nominations across the board. Congratulations must also go to Emma Meehan; from Edinburgh University Labour who has been nominated for 'Student Union Activist of the Year'.
We were joined in our category by Leicester University Labour Society and UCLan Labour Club. We did not win the award but we were delighted to be nominated. The eventual winners were Leicester, congratulations must go to their hard work within their first year of operatiing.
Details of the award and the other categories can be found HERE

Anas Sarwar meets Abertay Labour
Ahead of Dundee Hustings we were lucky to have a meeting with Depute Leader candidate Anas Sarwar. Anas - the depute candidate backed by Abertay Labour - talked about why he was the right man for the role.
One key point Anas made was the need for greater cross-party co-ordination. Elected Labour officials need to work closer to fight the key battles, in particular Scottish Labour MPs need to join the fight when it comes round to canvassing for MSPs at the Holyrood elections.

Ken Macintosh Meets Abertay Labour
Ken Macintosh met with Abertay Labour ahead of the Dundee Hustings to talk about his vision of taking Scottish Labour forward. He engaged with students of both Dundee's Labour Societies and explain why he should be elected the next leader of the Party.
A number of topics were discussed from health right through to Europe. The main issue of discussion was how to combat Salmond and why Ken was best suited in the task. His view was that you need to get past Salmond's bluster and argue on the details/specifics of issues. He feels he is the right candidate to re-win the votes of the Scottish people as 'Scotland's Party'.
It was interesting to hear Ken's perspective in a small informal group and how he plans to involve the students heavily in shaping Scottish Labour's future.
